Okay, using operatic vocals in metal is hardly something new, but so rarely do we hear an actual fusion of metal and opera. Not just the vocals, but the style and composition. And this is where the Italian quartet Crysalys stands out from the rest. Utilizing not just the operatic vocal approach the metal, they incorporate the drama and essence of opera itself in their music, creating a truly unique sound.
Crysalys recently released the first single, the title track from their upcoming debut album, “The Awakening of Gaia,” due out September 23rd, with an accompanying video. I will admit it’s a bit hard to get into right away. At first listen, it sounds a bit like some sort of incoherent tempest of sounds, but after a few listens it really begins to make sense, and the beauty of it begins to shine through. Chiara’s voice is simply amazing. Take a listen:
Crysalys is:
- Chiara Malvestiti – vocals
- Alessandro Camela – drums
- Fabio Amurri – keyboard
- Giuseppe Cardinali – bass
- Janos Murri – guitars
