Mary and the Black Lamb is from Oshawa, Ontario, Canada, and it’s a real surprise I didn’t find them sooner. That being said, I found the band a while ago, and yet it’s still one of my favorites, after discovering so much music since. While most of the musical community would classify the band as strictly “alternative,” (I don’t think it’s strictly any one thing) I felt the band needed some well-deserved attention. What really stood out to me is that the band isn’t your typical metal sort, and that their message isn’t expected, either. On the other hand, the music is the sort to get caught in your head for quite some time.
Their first full-length album, with another one on the way, or so I’ve been told, As the City Sleeps, is what some people I know like to call well-rounded. The music featured on the album is the haunting, deep sort that, like I said, stays in your head for a while, and it’s got some variety: it’s not just haunting music, it has rhythm and a good edge to it that still makes it stand out. But what the most awesome thing about it is that it really makes you think. There are some songs on the album that when you just sit and listen to them and let your world be still, you really understand what they’re saying and that the emotion speaks to you and is real. It’s exhilarating.
Mary and the Black Lamb is:
Lindz Riot – Vocals
Nixon Cutz – Guitar, Vocals
Jordan Caverly – Bass
Kyle Cullen – Keyboards
Scott Brindley- Drums
You can find Mary and the Black Lamb on Facebook and ReverbNation, where you can download three of their tracks for free.
Best wishes,
Mimi
